8th grade Spanish students completed chapters 9 & 10 in their novela "Las aventuras de Isabela." These are our last chapters that will end in review both Friday and Monday.

7th grade Spanish students reviewed their most recent story unit in the form of Spanish Jeopardy this week. The stories recounted were the following:
* Marcos le gusta hablar
* Conocemos a Lucía
* La chica perezosa
* Los gatos azules
* Victoria y el perro
We started our newest unit by the end of the week with the story/activity "¿Con quién va Luis?" in which students had to decide which friendship was most suitable for our character, Luis. Students had to make judgements about the personality of Luis versus the candidates proposed in Spanish.
*** Moore Time Spanish has officially started and we had our second week of meetings. Meetings will alternate between Miss Parker and Ms. Twomey. New members are always welcome! This is a great opportunity to practice conversational Spanish in a relaxed setting with friends. It is also a wonderful way to earn extra credit in foreign language!
6th grade Spanish students read the TPR story "Victoria y el perro." Students did a reader's theatre in class and were assessed in their oral comprehension skills through a true/false activity and question/answering conversation. This is in an effort to prepare our 6th graders for their first book in Spanish which will be beginning in March!

The week before February break

Students also did a review activity of chapters 6, 7, and 8 on Kahoot.
7th grade Spanish students did two new TPR stories. Students have been acting out these stories and answering clarifying questions both orally and in writing. Our most recent stories have been:
* Los gatos azules
* Victoria y el perro
***We are delighted to announce that Moore Time Spanish has officially started. Our first meeting was Tuesday of this week. Meetings will alternate between Miss Parker and Ms. Twomey. New members are always welcome! This is a great opportunity to practice conversational Spanish in a relaxed setting with friends. It is also a wonderful way to earn extra credit in foreign language!
6th grade Spanish students have been doing oral workshops and doing presentational speaking in front of their peers. Students explained where things are located in the school and in the city of Portland. Students have been using directions, places, and objects, to make themselves understood and to help their peers locate items/places/people.

Shortened by Snow
8th grade Spanish students used their abbreviated Spanish week to do a review of chapters 3, 4, & 5 of their novela, "Las Aventuras de Isabela." Review was in the form of a Kahoot activity. We will be reading chapters 6 & 7 next week. Grades for chapters 5, 6, 7, will be posted by the end of next week on Infinite Campus.

Testing Week
8th grade Spanish students have had an interrupted week of Spanish due to high school visits to Casco Bay and Deering as well as ACCESS and Smarted Balanced testing. As a result, most groups completed "Capítulo tres: Las Estatuas" from our mini-novela "Las Aventuras de Isabela." We also refreshed some of our reading and language acquisition with Kahoot review.
7th grade Spanish students have continued "Los Cuentos" (their short stories unit.) The stories featured this week include:
* Kevin va a la jungla
* Relajaté
We have been reading these stories using TPRS which is explained below:
TPR Storytelling (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling TPRS) is method of teaching foreign languages where a mixture of reading and storytelling help students learn Spanish in the classroom setting. El año 2015
8th grade Spanish students have begun their first novela called "Las aventuras de Isabela." We begun by reading our first two chapters this week and discussing the chapters in class orally and also wrote about the story using guiding questions. Our first two chapters were:

* Capítulo dos: Yo saco fotografías
7th Spanish students have begun their storytelling unit. We read the short stories "El gato feo" (The Ugly Cat) and "El número de teléfono" (The Telephone Number). Students created story maps and organized the sequence of events with these graphic organizers. We also used some Reader's Theatre's to reenact the stories and dialogue.
